Life on the Edge 2004
09 June 2004
Off the coast of the Carolinas is a world many have never seen. An amazing variety of life exists “on the edge” of the continental shelf and the Gulf Stream. Deep-water coral reefs and large hardbottom communities as well as a number of commercially important and unusual fish species are found here. These areas are the transition between the continental shelf and the truly deep sea. Using manned submersibles, nets and trawls to discover what is hidden in these dark, cold habitats. the research team, representing five different agencies, will work around the clock to document what lives and thrives in these areas.\n\nExpedition Site\n
