Peary Centennial
March 20th Dispatch
20 March 2009
The team reports today that they started the day by getting into some horrible ice that they could not find a way out from. But there is always an end to the rubble somewhere and finally they found their way into decent ice. The result was their best daily mileage yet with 7.9 nautical miles in 8 hours of travel. The temperature was a frigid -34 F in the morning, and -30 F by evening but it was sunny and beautiful. Ellesmere Island has disappeared beyond the horizon behind them helping the team to feel like they are making real progress. They are working extremely hard, and have upped their caloric intake by eating 2.4 sticks of butter a day in breakfast and dinner.

We are happy to have had many responses to the team's trivia question, and they are busy thinking up the next question. We'll announce the winner in the next dispatch - just to keep everyone in suspense!
