Mundi Mundi
Ian Robinson

Here is tonight's sunset from the Mundi Mundi lookout. It is from here, it is said, you can look out at the edge of the world. The desert stretched out to Lake Frome, hundreds of kilometres away across dunes and gibbers, but the sky - that is something else.

The artists' colony of Alice Springs is matched by that at Broken Hill - we feasted our eyes on Pro Hart's gallery today also. There are many others - more galleries than pubs these days. This mining town, famous for the "8 hour day" campaign, is in decline, and the new owner of the one remaining mine is putting in the boot.

Just outside Broken Hill is the historic village of Silverton. It > began before Broken Hill, but was soon out-done by it. Both towns have a lot > of > nineteenth century heritage buildings. This is part of Silverton, a very > good gallery of Western District artists. > >
